Over the past years on New Years Eve there is a little part of me that would get sad. I would get sad thinking there were no major improvements in my life and that my life was at a stand still. This year felt different. I could not say my life did not change over the last year. It changed in a major way. I never thought I would be living in the City but 2016 brought me here.
This change has been bitter sweet. It started off as that dream job that I have been waiting for. This was a position that did not have an opening and a position I did not apply for. It just happened. It did feel like a dream come true. As I was waiting for a decision after the interview, I fought with god everyday praying that this company hires me as this was my lottery ticket. I moved to the city and started my new job with fresh hopes and dreams. Now as I step into the new year and reflect back on the last few months- they have been challenging. I have been forced to deal with things that I have only seen in movies or read about. However, as always I believe there is something or someone watching out for me that helps me fight any battle that comes my way. To the world I may seem like a short scared little girl but that very little girl has weathered through several storms that life has thrown at her.
When I look back at 2016, regardless of the challenges in the last few months, it has been a good year. My career took a major leap and I believe I have found someone who actually believes in my talent. I moved to the city all alone and managed to get settled in. In hindsight that is not something everybody could manage. My relationship with my family has strengthened due to the challenges. I have rekindled old friendships and created new ones and hoping to rekindle more.
As I enter 2017, I am hopeful yet scared. I am scared of the unknown; however, I am lucky to have a brave little soldier in me that can fight anything and friends and family that I could rely on. The first six months after I turned 30, my life took a huge leap. I cannot wait to see what the next year has in store for me.
